Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need fancy kitchen gadgets to make my own PB? Not at all! Just a standard food processor. We rely on our 12 year old Cuisinart which actually works better than specialty grinders we've been gifted! While certain food processors may work more efficiently than others, we've found a little patience is all you really need.

Raw or roasted? Both roasted and raw nuts work, it really comes down to preference. Roasted nuts have a richer, more mellow flavor than raw, but both make absolutely delicious butters. When we've got the time, we like to roast our own prior to blending. We do this by placing them onto a sheet pan and baking at 350 degrees for 8-10 minutes, or until fragrant and golden.

No matter which type of nut you choose, we recommend always blending nuts at room temperature or freshly roasted. If you store your nuts in the fridge or freezer, be sure to pull them out 1-2 hours ahead of time. Your food processor will thank you, and, you won't have to spend as long blending to get your final product.

What if I'm a chunky PB fan? So are we! Reserve ¼-1/3 cup (depending on how much crunch you prefer) peanuts and give them a rough chop. Add them to the butter after it's blended and stir well to combine.

Can I add flavor to my butter? There are so many ways to get creative with homemade pb!From gingerbread spice to mocha chip, the possibilities are endless! For fruity twists, we rely on freeze dried fruits. Unlike fresh or dried, freeze dried has no moisture, which is preferred for creamy butters. We do not recommend fresh or dried fruit for nut butters. For best flavor, enjoy nut butters made with freeze dried fruit starting on day 2, when the flavors really meld.

How To Make

Homemade peanut butter is extremely easy to make. All you really need is peanuts and a little patience! We discovered freeze dried fruit adds a fun twist that the whole family goes crazy for! The key to a perfect butter is to start by blending the peanuts FIRST until they are well ground.

You really only need one ingredient to make homemade peanut butter: peanuts! We love making fun variations with different freeze-dried fruits and spices.

The Stages of PB Grinding

Peanuts will go through several stages before becoming luscious, creamy peanut butter. It looks a bit like: roughly chopped, finely chopped, a thick chunky paste, a thicker paste, a dough "ball”, and eventually a smooth and ultra creamy butter.

Peanuts will go through several stages in the blending process. They will grind down from whole peanuts into a thick, semi-smooth paste.

Once the peanuts have ground into a semi-smooth paste, you can begin incorporating freeze dried fruit, spices, or any favorite flavors. Adding these too early can slow the butter process and make more work for your processor.

Adding fruit too early can slow down the grinding process and make more work for your processor.

Continue blending for several more minutes, scraping down the sides, as needed. The first time you make homemade butter, it feels as though the peanuts may never smooth out. Don't give up! As blending continues, the nuts eventually release their natural oils and the butter will become super creamy. If you feel your processor motor is losing steam or overheating, give it a 5 minute rest before blending again.

Continue grinding butter until you reach desired consistency. For a "chunky" pb, we like to stir in ¼-/1/3 cup crushed peanuts at the end.

Homemade peanut butter is best kept in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Here, it can stay fresh for up to several months. We've found that butters made with freeze dried fruits or other additions may spoil faster, and should be enjoyed within 2-3 weeks.

Store peanut butter in an airtight container in the refrigerator for best freshness.

No matter how you use your peanut butter, we know you are sure to enjoy it. This fruity twist offers a fun, naturally sweetened alternative everyone will love. We can't wait to hear how you enjoy using it the most!
